Lou Capponi is a General Internist who founded the Westirongroup to help healthcare companies and providers transfer value to patients.
He has a long career in clinical and IT leadership positions in large and diverse provider organizations across the U.S. From 2004 to 2014 he held roles of system wide CMIO and Assistant Vice President for Clinical Information Systems for New York City’s municipal hospital system. There he implemented population-health programs including patient registries, designed clinical decision support applications, and created data warehouses for monitoring quality and outcomes, and he executed a System-Wide acquisition of Epic to replace their legacy EMR. At the Cleveland Clinic, Lou continued to focus on HIT as a value-driver through innovative care models, while also promoting increased usability and safety. He also participated in oversight of technology implementations within newly acquired hospitals and affiliated practices. At SCL Health, a system with eight hospitals in Colorado and Montana, he built a 70-person informatics team, implemented Google G-suite, and updated the existing EMR platform to provide greater usability, clinical decision support, and advanced prediction capability. Most Recently, Lou served as Chief Medical Officer at Spora Health, a telemedicine company focused on primary care for People of Color.
Prior to his work in informatics, Lou served as a medical director for a 150-provider practice and a 210-bed skilled nursing facility. His work at Westirongroup is set on helping new and existing companies successfully navigate the healthcare landscape to design and implement innovations that help people live healthier lives.
Lou received his undergraduate and medical education at New York University. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Clinical Informatics, a Fellow in the American College of Physicians, and has held faculty positions at NYU School of Medicine and the Cleveland Clinic Learner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. In his leisure time Lou likes to work out with his local US Masters Swim Team, nurture inhabitants of his reef aquarium, and relax with family and friends.
